Preschool Trike-a-thon

Micah's school, First Presbyterian Preschool, has an annual Trike-a-thon. It's used to raise money for something the preschool needs that is above and beyond what's in the budget. This year, it benefited playground improvements. This was the first time that Micah (or his parents, really) have hit up the relatives for money to support something he's doing. They were asked to pledge a certain amount per completed lap, and then estimate how many laps they thought he would finish. I think we're now on a path that we will be on for the next 18 years. I remember having do to sooo much fund-raising through the years... But I digress. Let me explain something before I continue. Micah doesn't ride a tricycle. We don't have one at home, but we do have a big wheel, and he won't ride it. We have a ride-in police car that he makes move by moving his feet, ala Fred Flintstone. He rarely rides in it. Instead, he likes to push things. It's not that he can't ride, but rather that he chooses the faster method. I guess you could say he has a need - a need for speed. Always has. So Micah didn't ride a tricycle or anything else. Instead, he pushed his beloved bubble mower around the track. Notice how his mom tricked it up with some streamers. Ready to go!! Needless to say, because he wasn't hindered by actually have to use pedals, Micah was the fastest one on the track. And so far, we've saved money because we didn't have to buy a helmet! At one point, he got a little too excited about how fast he could go and started ramming his unsuspecting buddy Lloyd from behind. Mommy quickly put a stop to that. There's no denying this boy is a Williams. With all due respect to his Black family, the Williams genes are decidedly more competitive. Here he is cutting people off, cutting through the course illegally, and visibly loving every second of it. Crossing the finish line. An interesting thing happened by the end of the race. Micah had run up to a bike that was on the sidelines, abandoning his bubble mower. When I told him that he couldn't ride someone else's bike and should go back to his mower, he said, "I want a bike." He finished the race, and later on Friday, I went to a local consignment shop and got him his first mini-bike, complete with training wheels. He's getting it for Easter. And no, we're not setting the bar too high. I had a $10 off coupon, so the bike cost me all of $5! Refueling after the tough race. All together, Micah did seven and a half laps. At least, that's what I think I counted. It's hard to cheer him on, take videos, snap pictures, and count the laps at the same time. Regardless, we're very proud of our speed racer!
