Letter from Liam
Dear Daddy -
Hi! It's Liam. Despite my lack of verbal skills, I'm shockingly good at expressing myself via the written word. I wanted to show you some things that we've been doing from my perspective.
I can't get enough of being outside. If Mommy would let me, I would sleep outside too. I have turned into a fearless explorer, but I'm not sure what I'm exploring in this picture, to be honest.
Despite the fact that there is baseball on the TV behind me, make no mistake about it - Steeler season has officially begun in Pittsburgh! All these crazy 'Burghers are wearing their Steelers gear all the time. Pop-Pop let me try on a real Steelers helmet. It's a little heavy. Thank goodness I have Mommy's normal-sized noggin so that it didn't tip me over. If I would have had your head like Micah does, I might have fallen over! Now I just need a Steelers shirt to go with it and I'll be ready to watch the games with Mommy.
Mum-Mum took Micah and Mommy to the library yesterday so Micah could get some truck books. He hadn't read any in a week, so he was going through what Mommy lovingly called, "withdrawal". (I've been hanging around Mommy too much, and am beginning to have a grasp on sarcasm and its many uses. Mommy says we better see you again soon so that you can stop the madness!) Mum-Mum read lots to him when they got home, including this book, which Mommy says that Micah has checked out multiple times from our library at home already.
While we were at Kennywood on Sunday, a lady in line behind us at the kiddie Turtles ride actually called me "so gosh dang cute". I didn't understand her at first, but Mommy later explained that the lady was speaking in an accent called Pittsburgh-ese and Mommy translated for me. I'm going to have to learn me some of that. But really, Daddy, how right on was that lady???
I still only count to three.
I still love to give kisses.
I still want to walk everywhere.
Some things haven't changed.
I miss you! Please sit on Samson for me and give Heinz a big open mouth kiss just so he remembers me.
Love,
Liam

Kennywood
On Sunday, we headed to Kennywood. Oh my goodness, loads of fun. It had been at least six years since I have been to the park and a lot longer than that since I rode the kiddie rides or even set foot in Kiddieland. A few things have changed, and I have to say that, even with Disney practically in our backyard, it was good to be at my home amusement park, and I really was impressed by the rides they had for the kids. The ride operators were another story. Suffice it to say that 16-year-old boys who clearly have more concern for their Justin Bieber haircuts than they do for putting my kid correctly in the seat of the ride are not my favorite people. But I digress...
Micah hit the helicopters first.
Liam really wanted to go. He was actually able to ride a good number of the Kiddieland rides since all that was required was that he walk independently. Yeah, he can do that.
Ah, the Kennywood arrow. Okay, not the Kennywood arrow, but one of a myriad uses of them around the park.
Then he rode the motorcycles. On each ride, he was really hesitant at first, like he was trying to figure out how everything worked. Once he did though, he loved it. But notice the tentative smile on his face.
They both rode the swings. They've done that at Busch Gardens and loved it. No different this time.
Check out the look on his face!!
Loving riding the train with Aunt Heidi.
Loving riding the train with Mum-Mum.
Micah flew the airplane, but it never left the ground. Despite repeated instructions, both gently told before he got on the ride and yelled to him as the ride circled around, we could not get him to find the stick (so clearly visible in this picture) in the plane to get it to go off the ground. He seemed to like it anyway.
Aunt Heidi took Liam on the "big boy cars". That's Micah's term.
Pop-Pop and Micah taking off.
Aunt Heidi and Liam hitting the track.
Ahhh. Dinner. I'm sorry, but those of you from Pittsburgh understand this picture. Those of you who aren't, there's no way to explain it.
Getting ready for the kiddie version of the Whip.
It's hard to tell from these pictures, but oh my goodness, did they love this ride.
Micah loved it so much that he wanted to ride it again later.
Aunt Heidi and Micah rode the Crazy Trolley.
Before the ride.
Micah's comment while they were up in the air like this? "Wow, this is a crazy trolley." Already with the dry sense of humor.
Told you they loved it. :)

Ode to the Bellybutton
Micah has a fascination with his bellybutton. He's always had one. I'm sure that part of it is that his "outie" is so fantastic. I think I've even blogged about it before. But Liam, who watches and copies everything Micah does, doesn't have an outie. He just loves his bellybutton because he's watched his big brother love his bellybutton.
So this is a pictorial "Ode to the Bellybutton".

Fun Day
Aunt Heidi and I took the boys to Wiltshire Park today. A blast from the past for us - the park is located at the end of the street we grew up on, and we used to play there as kids. Things have changed a little, but it was still completely surreal to be taking my kids there.
The boys sort of raced down the slides.
Liam riding the spinner-thing. Yep, that's the official name.
He liked it. Until he fell off. I don't have a picture of that.
Running across a bridge to get to Micah in the sandbox.
Building a great castle!
This very same cement seal was in the park when we were kids. I'm not sure why it's still there; having a solid cement structure that kids play on has to be 28 different kinds of illegal in kid-dom, but it's still there so I was able to get a cute picture.
Micah enjoyed the spinner-thing too. Until he fell off. I don't have a picture of that either. It's kind of a rite of passage.
Just in case you were worried that our boys didn't have moves, here is some random footage of them dancing. (Sorry Liam's behind the lamb. Don't worry - you can still see him shaking his groove thang.) Liam can dance to any music.
Micah, on the other hand, doesn't dance much. We found out tonight that he requires authentic music in a Mexican restaurant to get him going.
We miss you, Daddy!

More birthday
As promised, I wanted to post more from Micah's birthday. He opened presents from family on Monday - still not his actual birthday, but we were a little off this year.
Liam got his brother a paint-your-own Buzz Lightyear suncatcher.
And after he opened all of his presents, he created his masterpiece!
Liam just wanted to play with the bag that his present to Micah was in.
Opening his new "Toy Story" backpack and lunch bag from Grandma and Grandpa!
He's weirdly smiling in all the pictures I took while he was opening his presents, but he loved everything. Here he is, showing off the backpack.
"Toy Story" books from Mum-Mum and Pop-Pop. The theme continues...
Another weird smile, this time for "Toy Story" underwear.
A non "TS" present - a bunch of Daddy's old matchbox cars. He's in love.
And a bike!!! I had bought this for him a while ago (remember this post?) but we just hadn't found the right time to give it to him. We decided it seemed like a good third-birthday present.
Unfortunately, it was raining outside, so he had to settle fora little spin around the kitchen.
And look who else wants to join in the fun? Let's wait a couple more years, little guy.
And one more weird smile for the "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" DVDs that Aunt Deci and Uncle Ryan gave to him. We had DVRed "TS2" from the TV, but it's nice to have real copies of both.
Thanks for loving Micah!!

Micah's birthday party
As I mentioned in my last post, Micah turned 3 yesterday. We had a little party at the house for some of his buddies who are his age from church. This is how the birthday boy napped today. (He got the crown at church during a Sunday School lesson.)
He had asked for a Toy Story party. Buzz and Woody stood guard over the cake.
When it came time for the gifts, Liam really wanted to help.
But soon Micah took over.
A mini Buzz and Woody!
More trains. I can't wait to see what he can do with these when he adds them to what he already has. We might have to build an extra room on our house just so Micah has space to create.
A remote control car!
At first he looked a little unsure of getting all the attention while we sang to him...
...and needed a little help with the candles!
Micah has a lot of people who love him.
Rebekah helped to love on Liam and keep him happy.
And, totally fitting, the birthday boy once again feel asleep wearing his crown. Gosh, we love him.
More birthday pictures to come of him opening up family gifts!
