"Peace Love Play" is the simplest and yet most amazing idea. It's basically a rented office space-sized place that's kid-safe and full of toys. For $6, kids 6 and under can play for 5 hours, and participate in everything the place has going on that day, which can be anything from an arts and crafts project to a Japanese lesson. (Yes, your kid can learn Japanese.)
There's no charge for parents (or grandparents), you can bring in your own meals/snacks or you can buy little things from them, and your kid can run around blissfully.
It's heaven. Or what I imagine the air-conditioned, out of the brutal Florida sun, child-friendly part of heaven looks like.
I packed the kids in the car this morning to take them to the library after Liam took his morning nap. We tried this yesterday and I got everyone packed up in the RAV only to discover that my battery was dead. So I promised Micah we could go today. I packed them all up again around 10:30 only to remember, after everyone was in the car, that the library doesn't open on Thursdays until noon. This is the third or fourth time this summer I have been burned by this one-day opening time change, as it normally opens at 10.
Not willing to face the wrath of Micah at a second day of unintentionally broken promises, I searched my mind for something else to do and this place, which I had heard about a couple of weeks ago, popped into my head. I found the address online, threw together a quick lunch for the kids, and put a DVD in the portable player, as I really had no idea how to get where I was going and wanted them to at least be entertained if I was never able to find it. And off we went.
And we found it. And our souls were immediately at peace. (Even our bodies - Micah went on his potty three times during our time there with no begging from me.) And we loved it. And we played.

Peace Love Play
No, I'm not going all hippie on you. "Peace Love Play" is the name of this truly fantastic new play place I recently found out about. It's in Plant City, about 15 minutes from our house, and I'm wondering where it's been all my life - or, at least, why I haven't know about it since the second it opened its doors on April 1. Which happens to be my birthday, and what a nice birthday present it would have been to have been made aware of this place on that day!!

How much that boy in the window?
A (blurry) picture of part of "Peace Love Play". (As an aside, if you enjoy this blog and want to send me tokens of your appreciation in the form of monetary contributions, I would gladly take them and put them towards a new and better camera. For the life of me, I can never find the right setting to take non-blurry pictures. I am forever getting crystal clear images of the background and beautifully blurry images of the subject in my shots.)
Cutie-patootie feet. Liam hardly ever wears socks, but it's like the only rule they have at this place. He was falling all over the place but never cried. Couldn't you just eat those pudgy legs for lunch??
A new pair of pink socks I scored - um, purchased - from them because, while I remembered to bring socks for the kids, I neglected to bring a pair for myself.
Trying out the slide.
They even had trains for Micah to play with - see, I told you it was heaven! - and he rapidly impressed the other parents there with his track-building abilities. I was proud.
This place is so cool that Liam can drive the car into the house and they don't even care.
Liam saying, "Wow, Mom, isn't this place the coolest??" See note above on blurry pictures. Seriously, I'll send my address to anyone that wants to donate! :)
Our little lunch, and an extra train track.
We had such a great time that I totally forgot that I was coming home to this.
At least Micah hadn't emptied all the containers before we left.
Seriously, if you live in the area, check out "Peace Love Play" here. And enjoy!
