Pre-Easter fun
This is the first year that Micah has been old enough to really engage in some fun pre-Easter rituals. So yesterday, we engaged. First up was cookie-making. Clearly we used the packaged stuff
but it's because I know our son. He's not the most patient boy, and he's really just learning that trait. It was hard enough for him to wait the eight minutes for the cookies to bake and the five minutes for them to cool. If I had insisted he wait longer in the creation process, I don't think he would have been able to take it!
Notice in this picture how I demonstrated placing the cookies on the sheet in rows and Micah decided he likes his a little more haphazardly placed.
The best part!
He ate two and asked for more throughout the day. I'm thinking it was a success!
Later in the day we dyed Easter eggs. This was a little rougher; it's hard to explain the concept of "permanent dye" to a 2 1/2 year old who likes to splash. But he did a good job, first with the green
and then with the yellow.
Proudly posing with his Easter eggs! Isn't it funny that they always end up tinted brown??
Don't worry that Liam wasn't around or involved. While he may not have had his hands on any food products just yet, he had his own fun yesterday. He is getting so strong and stands on his own for four or five seconds at a time now. Yesterday I thought he was going to do a pull-up on the chair where J.P. was eating lunch. He's not all that interested in food, so I think he was just checking things out.
When we dyed eggs, he was close by in his exersaucer, enjoying the toys for a few minutes. Look at that beautiful smile!

Preschool Trike-a-thon
Micah's school, First Presbyterian Preschool, has an annual Trike-a-thon.
It's used to raise money for something the preschool needs that is above and beyond what's in the budget. This year, it benefited playground improvements.
This was the first time that Micah (or his parents, really) have hit up the relatives for money to support something he's doing. They were asked to pledge a certain amount per completed lap, and then estimate how many laps they thought he would finish. I think we're now on a path that we will be on for the next 18 years. I remember having do to sooo much fund-raising through the years...
But I digress. Let me explain something before I continue. Micah doesn't ride a tricycle. We don't have one at home, but we do have a big wheel, and he won't ride it. We have a ride-in police car that he makes move by moving his feet, ala Fred Flintstone. He rarely rides in it. Instead, he likes to push things. It's not that he can't ride, but rather that he chooses the faster method. I guess you could say he has a need - a need for speed. Always has. So Micah didn't ride a tricycle or anything else. Instead, he pushed his beloved bubble mower around the track. Notice how his mom tricked it up with some streamers.
Ready to go!!
Needless to say, because he wasn't hindered by actually have to use pedals, Micah was the fastest one on the track. And so far, we've saved money because we didn't have to buy a helmet!
At one point, he got a little too excited about how fast he could go and started ramming his unsuspecting buddy Lloyd from behind. Mommy quickly put a stop to that.
There's no denying this boy is a Williams. With all due respect to his Black family, the Williams genes are decidedly more competitive. Here he is cutting people off, cutting through the course illegally, and visibly loving every second of it.
Crossing the finish line. An interesting thing happened by the end of the race. Micah had run up to a bike that was on the sidelines, abandoning his bubble mower. When I told him that he couldn't ride someone else's bike and should go back to his mower, he said, "I want a bike." He finished the race, and later on Friday, I went to a local consignment shop and got him his first mini-bike, complete with training wheels. He's getting it for Easter.
And no, we're not setting the bar too high. I had a $10 off coupon, so the bike cost me all of $5!
Refueling after the tough race.
All together, Micah did seven and a half laps. At least, that's what I think I counted. It's hard to cheer him on, take videos, snap pictures, and count the laps at the same time. Regardless, we're very proud of our speed racer!
Sesame Street Safari of Fun
Busch Gardens, which is about 30 minutes from where we live, is opening a new area of the park called Sesame Street Place. We went for a preview night on Thursday. Notice how the Count says the park doesn't open for two days:
We got to see it before anyone else!! Our friend Donna works for the park and brought us with her on friends and family preview night. It was so awesome. There were no lines, so Micah got to stay longer on each ride than he normally would. First up, of course, was the cars. I think he enjoyed being able to ride in one by himself.
And he's off!
Next was the water ride - a mini-LogJammer, for those of you to whom that means anything. He just made the height requirement.
Gearing up for the big down hill slide!
The video of it is pretty cute too.
Bouncy areas are always a good time.
Riding with daddy on a neat and different merry-go-round.
Daddy and Micah also went on a Big Bird ride where they got to ride in eggs that went around like a Ferris Wheel. Every time I tell Micah to smile and he doesn't, I tell him to show me his teeth. He loves to do that and most of the time it turns out to be a nice smile. This time, it turned into sticking his tongue out.
Waving to me from the swings. Such a big boy to be able to do it by himself...and not be terrified!
In fact, he really enjoyed it.
The whole family posed with Bert and Ernie. Notice how Tim and I are diligently looking at the camera, and the boys are too enthralled with their new friends to even think about taking their eyes off of them.
As part of our evening, we also got a free dinner of yummy hot dogs, and a free character picture. Look who we met!!
It's actually a nice professional portrait that I scanned into our computer.
Big Bird was really sweet to the boys, letting them touch his beak and give him knuckles. The background was actually a green screen and we got to choose what we wanted. I just had to choose the iconic door. I was a little disappointed that they didn't have the actual set there, but at least we can feel like we were there.
By the way, we left right after this picture was taken. Can you tell how tired the boys were?
Thanks, Donna, for this incredible opportunity!!

Liam was 44 weeks old two days ago
Tim took this on Thursday, but I haven't had the time to post it until now. Liam is getting better after being diagnosed with two ear infections, one in each ear. He's sleeping much better - shocking, I know.
I have lots of pictures to upload, ones from our trip to the new Sesame Street portion of Busch Gardens, and ones from Micah's trike-a-thon on Friday. Just don't have the energy right now. Maybe tomorrow. But they're worth the wait.

Finally warm!
It is finally feeling like Florida again, so Micah, Liam and I took advantage of the beautiful Saturday morning weather to go to the park. (Daddy had to work on tomorrow's sermon.) We had a great time basking in the sun and feeling it warm us as we played.

Liam is 42 weeks old today
Got the picture on the first take this morning! If you know anything about trying to take a picture like this with a child who's ten months old, you know that's darn near miraculous. Liam must have been in a good mood. No grin, but how about a mischievous little smile?
I went into Micah's room about ten minutes after he went in to start taking his nap. This is what I found:
And a little closer up:
Seems he was exploring his train table. So I asked if he was stuck
and he said "no", then he demonstrated that he wasn't stuck
so that Mommy would stop taking pictures. He finally did fall asleep. I'm watching another little boy today and, again with the miraculous, all three are sleeping at the same time. Which makes me ask, why am I blogging and not sleeping???
