On Saturday afternoon, the boys took a monster nap - almost three hours each. Crazy good. Tim had other plans for the evening, so I thought that I would reward them by taking them "someplace fun". (This is one of Micah's favorite phrases. He always wants to go "someplace fun.") I was thinking how cool it would be to go to the airport, watch the planes, maybe ride a bus or too.
I have to admit that I had a selfish ulterior motive. This was
my definition of fun.

There is a
great gluten free pizza place by the airport. (That's actually what it looks like!) Since it's almost an hour from our house, I really can't justify the long drive, but I can if the boys and I are hanging out at the airport. But they don't need to know that, right?
So when the boys were up, I asked Micah if he wanted to go someplace fun. When he said yes, I made the fatal mistake of asking, "Where is someplace fun?" His response? "I want to go play with the school bus with the big wheels." No matter what I said, I couldn't talk him out of going to play with this toy. Want to know where the toy is?

That's right, the Cracker Barrel toy store. He found it when my dad was here, rediscovered it when Tim's mom was here, and is now completely in love with the whole toy section. If the thing wasn't $12.99 (yes, you read that right) I would have purchased it for him already because he talks about it all the time.
So, wanting to put my boys' happiness in front of my own, we headed to Cracker Barrel. Not to eat - I wasn't really hungry yet, so we just crashed the toy section for about 20 minutes. I'm sure the workers are
thrilled with people who come, don't eat, and just use the toys.
Here are Micah and Liam getting all the toys out.

Lining them up on the floor, just like Micah does at home. Interestingly, although he got excited about seeing it, the bus that initially made him make the request to go to Cracker Barrel, only held his attention for a few seconds. Then the other ones took over.

What else is fun to our kids? The rides at the mall. So Micah got in the bus.

And the race car.

And spotted the McDonald's logo immediately in the midst of all of these. Took me a minute to find it myself. I won't get into a discussion here on how programmed our children are already at the age of 2 1/2!

And he sat in Clifford, the big red dog. Notice I'm saying "sat" in all of these, not "ride". I did draw some lines!

Micah even asked for Liam to join him in the bus! A big moment for us that he was willing to share with his little brother.

And then we went to see the real cars.

Had to check out the red one too.

After all that, we were hungry. So I made it a really special trip and we went to the frozen yogurt place for dinner. That's right, dinner. (Although Micah did end up having something else when we got home to supplement.)
Enjoying his treat.

This is Liam when you try to feed him real baby food.

This is Liam when you feed him frozen yogurt. I hope you see that he does have some baby food on his face so you know that he did eat almost two full jars of that with my consistent efforts. My judgment isn't completely gone!! :)

On the way home, Liam had his toes for dessert.

In the end, it was a really good evening of togetherness for me and my boys. Just wanted to thank my boys for teaching me a whole new definition of fun. Now I just have to teach myself to remember that definition when I'm starving at 10:00 at night because all I had for dinner was frozen yogurt and all I want is pizza!! :)
