Blue Ridge Mountains

Our friends Lloyd and Wendy rock. They bid on some time at a cabin through an auction at our church and they won - and they invited us to go with them! Have I mentioned that they rock? So the Lasher and Black families headed north for a long weekend. This was the scene from the deck of the cabin. Can't you just feel yourselves relaxing even looking at the picture??Playing with Rocket from "Little Einsteins" on the deck. Going toward the light.Being the kind (and brave) souls that they are, the Lashers brought their trains. Micah, who has these same tracks at home, loved building with them in the cabin. We hiked to a waterfall one day. Okay "hike" is the wrong word. It was .3 miles on a paved path, but we brought out the backpack anyway just so we could feel like real hikers for a while. Isn't this beautiful? Daddy and Liam enjoyed the view. Handsome "hikers". :) We didn't. We didn't do this either. It's okay, Micah, they're not real. (We came upon a beautiful lodge and these were in the lobby.) Two master players in the making - if only the younger one would stop eating them... Micah and Daddy got to take a train ride through the mountains with the Lashers while I hung back at the cabin with Liam. The little boy in the picture is "my buddy Lloyd", which is what Micah always calls him. Notice how Micah is looking in awe at how big the train is. He's got a train on his shirt, which (I think) explains why he is sticking his chest out in this picture. Don't say we don't plan ahead! Riding the rails. Maybe our future home? The creek that ran next to the train. Apparently there were only random glimpses of this creek and every time the passengers could briefly see it, the tour guide woman would get on the loud speaker and say, "Kodak moment!" but the train was usually moving too fast to get a picture. I guess you had to be there. They had lunch at a 50's diner. On the way home we did something we never do - be spontaneous. I'm not a totally structured girl, but at the beginning of the day, I like to have a pretty good idea where the rest of it is headed. Especially now that we have the boys. Taking the nine hour trip home is rough enough, and adding detours could always mean adding crying fits. But we pulled off the main highway after running into some traffic and in our attempt to find a way around it, we saw a sign for "Road to Tara Gone with the Wind" museum. My wonderful husband suggested we explore it if we could. We found it and we couldn't - this was Sunday and they weren't open. But we tried! Someday... Thank you, Lashers, for sharing your vacation with us. We had a fantastic time and I think you succeeded in turning this beach girl on to future mountain vacations, much to her husband's delight! Have I mentioned that they rock?
