Kindergarten Concert

Micah had his first kindergarten concert tonight.  He was soooo excited!  We have never seen him this excited for a concert before.  Usually his role is "cute kid with half smile, hands in pockets, doesn't sing."  He pulls it off well, but we were always hoping that one day he would start using his voice for singing - and tonight he did.  Brimming with confidence before the performance.
Liam insisted on playing photographer for part of the evening.  Unfortunately, besides this picture of Tim, the only pictures he wanted to take were of Micah's friend Samantha and not Micah.
In comes Micah!  He was looking around for us and couldn't find us for a few minutes.
Handsome boy, always with his hands in his pockets.
I managed to snag this group shot which illustrates three things.
1. These are all the kindergarten students in Micah's school, which has seven kindergarten classes.
2. It shows the future of picture-taking, which is apparently here.  We shouldn't watch our kids right in front of us.  We should watch them on the iPad instead.  At least if I'm holding my camera up to take a picture, my kids can still see me smiling at them.  The kids that belong with these two people only saw dark rectangles where faces should be.  It's a little upsetting to me.
3. Micah had told us when we walked into the room before taking him back to be with his classmates, that he would be standing on what is the left side of this picture. Obediently, we parked ourselves right in front of where he said he would be.  See that plant on the right side of the picture?  Now look right in front of it for the kid in the green shirt.  Yep, that's Micah. Just about as far away from where we were as you could possibly get. :)
I thought I would post two short videos of songs.  The kids did a solid half hour of singing - especially impressive because I don't think any song was longer than 2 1/2 minutes.  And they memorized words and hand motions for each song.
The first clip is an ode to all things fast food.

The second video is about a monkey swinging from a tree and the alligator that gets him.
He's already caught between two worlds - wanting to hold my hand when he was walking into school tonight, and doing it himself without being nervous or scared.  It's hard to watch because I want to make everything as easy as possible for him.  But he was so proud of himself, being up there with his classmates, singing and doing the hand motions they'd been taught.  And when we got in the car, Liam told his brother, with no prompting from me, "Micah you did an awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome job singing tonight."  Not gonna lie - made me cry a little bit through the big smile that spread over my face.  They may fight, but they have each other's back.
Way to go, Micah!!  We're so proud of you and we love you!!
