Update on Micah

We took Micah to the ENT just under two weeks ago and had his hearing tested again. In summary, it was poor before the tubes, great after the tubes, and had regressed to poor once again since the tubes have fallen out. So we're set for another round of tubes, and the doctor is going to take Micah's adenoids out at the same time. (I refrained from putting a picture of adenoids on the blog. You're welcome.) This will all take place in a little less than two weeks. While we don't welcome yet another procedure on our 18-month-old, we are grateful that there are ways to help him get relief from the constant ear infections (three in February alone) and are hopeful that this will help him with his speech, which isn't where it should be at his age. He's really bright in that he follows directives we give him, and he can identify all the animals in his books and most of the different cars and trucks, but he always does so by pointing and not saying the words. Right now, his speech consists of "uh-oh", "dada", "mama" (only if he's hungry), and "bye-bye". We can hear that he's trying to say other words, but they're not clear, and I believe it's because he's not hearing them correctly so he can't mimic them. So at the beginning of April, he'll also visit a speech therapist. We're hoping that person can let us know if there's anything else impeding his speech, and give us some tips on how to help him get a jump start in speaking. So that's the update from us. Other than this trouble with his ears, he continues to be a happy, energetic, and all-boy little boy.
